Gungarlin River campground sits among mountain trees beside the water. Come for the quieter side of Kosciuszko and time exploring Botherum Plain.
Reaching Gungarlin involves a 4WD-only trail from the Jindabyne side of the park. Once there, the river, management trails and historic huts around Botherum Plain give anglers, riders and cyclists several ways to spend a day.

Getting there
Gungarlin River campground is in the Thredbo-Perisher area of Kosciuszko National Park. To get there: From Jindabyne: Head north on Kosciuszko Road towards Berridale for 13.5km. Turn left on Eucumbene Road and follow for 20km. Turn left onto Nimmo Road and follow for 10km to Nimmo Hill. Turn left at Nimmo Hill and follow the power line along Island Bend fire trail (4WD only). Follow the fire trail 7.5km to the Gungarlin River, then follow the signs to the campground. From Cooma: Head south towards Jindabyne around 24km. Turn right onto Rocky Plain Road and follow for 25.5km. Turn right onto Eucumbene Road. After 3.5km turn left onto Nimmo Road and follow for 10km to Nimmo Hill. Turn left at Nimmo Hill and follow the power line along Island Bend fire trail (4WD only). Follow the fire trail 7.5km to the Gungarlin River, then follow the signs to the campground. Road access: Most roads require 4WD vehicle; Snow chains required after snow.
